Lisa Sage
“The apprenticeship has been really good for raising my profile within the organisation and has shown senior managers that I am committed to the company”
Chaucer Insurance is a long-established business with the capital and expertise required to underwrite business at Lloyd’s, the world’s leading specialist insurance and reinsurance market.
Lisa Sage joined Chaucer Insurance in (month) 2007, as a Telephone Representative and is now a Deputy Team Leader in the First Response Unit. She is currently undertaking a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Retail Financial Services, through the National Skills Academy for Financial Services (NSAFS).
Lisa is one of the first six apprentices trialling the scheme being offered at Chaucer Insurance and is expecting to finish in early February 2010.
The Apprenticeship scheme has helped Lisa progress her career: “The main benefit of the scheme is that it has been really good for raising my profile within the organisation and has shown senior mangers that I am committed to the company. This has helped my career progression within the company.
“On a personal basis, the presentational element of the course boosted my confidence a great deal and allowed me to do things I usually wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do.”
For Lisa the main benefit of learning through a work based programme has been having the ability to apply the technical knowledge she has learnt to everyday situations. “The final stage of the assessment is on the job, ensuring that we are tested on our technical and practical knowledge. It has been valuable to have a work based approach rather than just a technical approach.
“The Apprenticeship scheme has created a positive work environment amongst the team and prompted interest from other members of the team. I think it is a great way of getting people trained quickly and has accelerated my personal development and confidence.”
